She completed her doctoral training at the Dept of Chemistry, University of Athens in 1995. Her thesis focused on the application of mineral magnetic methods for tracing pollution records in recent sediments. The work coupled the information obtained from sediment chemistry with that of the magnetic features of sediments in the Gulf of Lions and the NW Mediterranenan Sea. It was carried out in the framework of the EU project EROS-2000. During the years 1990-91, Christina Zeri has earned an EU ‘Grants Action’ grant in order to visit the University of Liverpool, Dept of Geography and be trained on the magnetic methodology by prof. F. Oldfield.
At HCMR, her research focuses on trace metal and natural organic matter biogeochemistry. She has gained expertise on trace metal cycling in the water column, interactions between trace metals and organic matter, marine pollution-toxicity by heavy metals, biogeochemistry and optical properties of dissolved organic matter (DOM-CDOM).
She has active participation, principal investigator, in several European projects focusing on the biogeochemical processes in the Mediterranean Sea such as PERSEUS-IP, SESAME, MEDEX/MARINERA, MTPII-MATER; METROMED/ELOISE; INTERREG I; KEYCOP; INTERREG II; INTERPOL, MEDPOL. She is also involved and coordinates many national projects concerning the management of various Greek coastal areas with multiple anthropogenic pressures.
She is also a part-time lecturer (2008 –today) at the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry, Dept of Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She co-teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in ‘Marine Chemistry’ and ‘Management of Aquatic Ecosystems’.
1985 Diploma in Chemistry, Dept of Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
1995 Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography, Dept of Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
1990-91 University of Liverpool, Grant holder from the EU ‘Grants Action’.
