Thalassocosmos Infrastructure

 

The  Thalassocosmos of HCMR Crete officially started its operation in December 2005, in the area of ​​Gournes in Crete, Greece, 15 km. east of Heraklion. In a location which consists a unique park of research, education, culture and recreation that aims to promote and diffuse knowledge for the marine environment.

The total area of ​​”Thalassokosmos”  is 58,000 sq.m. The research facilities and workshops cover an area of ​​3.185 sq.m. The management spaces cover 985 sq.m. and the warehouses totaling 1,260 sq. M

 

The building infrastructure also includes an amphitheater with a capacity of 150 people, two smaller seminar rooms with the possibility to be converted into a large single meeting space, as well as the specially designed library area covering an area of ​​170 sq.m.

The Thalassocosmos invented by former employees of the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete, it is a creation of the Greek Marine Research Centre, and thus is backed by the knowledge specialization and innovation of Greeks Scientists that Aquatic environment has developed over the last 20 years.

The Thalassocosmos has modern image analysis equipment, G.I.S. And a complete video capture and processing center, Betacam, digital video editing and modern presentation and projection equipment.
