Dr. Karageorgis completed his doctoral training at the School of Geology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1992. His thesis work focused on the sedimentological characteristics and the latest Pleistocene evolution of the Evvoikos Gulf in central Greece. Ph.D. Dissertation: “Mineralogical – Geochemical & Stratigraphic study of the Holocene cover in the marine area between Attica-Euboea-N. Cycladesâ€.
Since 1997, within the framework of the EU-funded project Metro-Med initiated his work on particle dynamics, employing in-situ and laboratory methods. He developed special non-destructive methods for the analysis of particles, for the determination of their mineralogical and geochemical composition.
Dr. Karageorgis was a post-doctoral fellow at the Ecole des Mines de Paris, Centre d’ Energétique. Groupe Télédétection & Modélisation, Sophia-Antipolis, France. Post-doc session: “Integration of remote sensing, in-situ observations and numerical modelling, applied to the North-East Atlanticâ€.

Research Interests
Dr. Karageorgis’s main research activities are in sedimentology, particle dynamics, geochemistry, submarine groundwater discharges. Since 1997 he works on the study of optical properties of particulates in suspension (light transmission, fluorescence, scattering and absorption). The use of the new in situ laser particle size analyzer LISST-Deep sheds new light in particle dynamics studies. Since 2005 and up to present day he gives academic semester courses in Oceanography in the framework of ‘PAIDEIA’ Study abroad programs in Greece, hosted in the Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes. He supervised many undergraduate diploma thesis, Ph.D. and Post-Doc students. He published 50 papers in international journals and more than 100 communications in international conferences.
