Papadakis Ioannis is a Research technician at the Institute of Aquaculture of Hellenic Center for Marine Research. He assumed his duties in January 2002.

Papadakis Ioannis is also a Doctor of Philosophy student (he is going to complete the doctoral training study until November of 2011) at the Department of Biology of the University of Crete under the supervision of Dr. P. Divanach.

His PhD thesis is focused on the ontogenesis and plasticity of the systems associated with feeding behaviour in fish.

Papadakis Ioannis pursued his master’s degree in Graduate Program «Management of Marine and terrestrial ecosystems» Department of Biology, University of Crete (2004). He holds a bachelor’s degree (1996) in Crop and Animal Production (speciality at aquaculture) from University of Thessaly, School of Agriculture, Greece.

Research Interests

His research interests are focused on study the behavior of farmed species in aquaculture. Particularly, his research interest focuses on the ontogeny and plasticity of the organs, associated with feeding behavior of the new candidate marine species in aquaculture, but also in the study of the factors that influence the development these organs in the early stages of development. The above research is close connected with the aquaculture industry, as it improves the rearing protocols of farmed species in all stages of the rearing procedure, in order to improve the productive indices of companies dealing with the aquaculture sector.

Technical skills and competences

• Experience on rearing procedures in hatcheries, sea cages and in fish farming recirculating systems
• Organization and Participation in cage and mooring construction
• Use of automated feeding systems
• Laboratory work on chemical analysis of food, fish flesh, fish tissues, water chemical analysis
• Image analysis
• Analysis of fish behaviour fish from video data
• Histology in the larva stages and specialized on the digestive and visual system
