The major scientific interest of Chara Kyriakidou is the integrated study of the coastal and marine areas. In particular, she is a GIS specialist, currently working at the Lab of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) of the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR). She has been working on geodatabases development, coastal-marine mapping, bathymetric maps creation, mapping of seismic data, coastal change monitoring and analysis (erosion evaluation and shoreline changes using RUSLE model), processing of aerial photos and maps of various dates for the assessment of coastal area displacement, coastal resource survey and management, estimation of the ecological status of coastal and inland waters, analysis and management of drainage basins.
Currently, Miss Chara Kyriakidou works on the acquisition and processing of bathymetric data, and the production of seabed charts and mosaics. She is involved in the operation of the multibeam systems of the research vessels AEGAEO (SeaBeam 2120 & 1180) and ALKYON (RESON 7125).
Finally, she has participated into various European and National research proposals and projects associated with coastal zone management, oceanographic data collection, processing and presentation, mapping of Submarine Ecotypes, coastal morphology. She has participated in small scale coastal and land surveying.
