Dr. Karaouzas completed his doctoral thesis in Freshwater Pollution and Ecotoxicology at the University of Ioannina. His thesis work focused on the impacts of agro-industrial wastewaters on stream ecosystems at different levels of biological organization. He graduated from the University of Brighton, UK, where he studied Biology and received his Master’s degree in Environmental Pollution Sciences from Brunel University, UK.
His expertise lies in Freshwater Ecology and Pollution Management, Conservation and Protection of Freshwater Ecosystems, Ecology and Taxonomy of Aquatic Invertebrates and Ecotoxicology. Up to now he has published 15 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals and 34 articles in international and national conference proceedings on freshwater conservation and management, environmental pollution, hydro-geochemistry, ecology, ecotoxicology, zoology and animal taxonomy. He has been an invited reviewer in 7 international journals.
