Mrs Paraskevi Drakopoulou is a graduate of the Department of Environmental Studies of the University of the Aegean, with a Masters of Marine Biology. She is a GIS specialist and has been working at the Lab of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) at the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) as Research Assistant for 15 years.
Mrs Drakopoulou is working on geodatabase development, coastal-marine mapping, bathymetric maps creation, coastal change monitoring and analysis (erosion, shoreline changes), coastal resource survey and management, assessment of the ecological status of coastal and inland waters, analysis and management of drainage basins using GIS, etc.
She is participating in various European and national research proposals and projects, involving coastal zone management, oceanographic data collection, processing, and presentation, mapping of marine habitats, coastal morphology, etc. She has participated in small scale coastal and land surveying.

Research Interests
Mrs Drakopoulou’s research interests are related to coastal and marine GIS. Her work extends to capture, manipulation and visualisation of land and marine data for coastal zone management, marine spatial planning, seascape visualization, seafloor mapping, cartography, marine protected areas, environmental hazard, vulnerability and risk GIS. She is also interested in the area of marine landscape ecology as well as conservation and management applications of GIS. She uses GIS modelling and spatial statistics to study the relationship between scale dependence, habitat complexity and patterns of species distribution and abundance in marine and transitional communities.
