Dr. Stavros Chatzifotis is a researcher at the institute of Aquaculture, Hellenic Centre for Marine Research since 1999.
Dr. Stavros Chatzifotis holds a degree in Biology from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki-Greece, a Masters Degree in Fisheries Biology and Management for the University College of North Wales-UK and a Doctoral degree in Aquatic Bioscience from the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (former Tokyo University of Fisheries)-Japan. In his doctoral dissertation he investigated the effect of dietary carnitine on growth and lipid composition of red sea bream and rainbow trout.
After working a few years in the aquaculture industry, Dr. Stavros Chatzifotis jointed the institute of Aquaculture, Hellenic Centre for Marine Research where he works on nutrient requirement in established (sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax, and sea bream Sparus aurata and new species for aquaculture, such for common dentex, Dentex dentex meagre Argyrosomus regius. Other interests include the use of plant protein sources in aqua-feeds, feeding behavior, feed preference and attractants.
Dr. Stavros Chatzifotis is a host scientist for Leonardo trainees visiting the Institute of Aquaculture in Crete. He is an active member of Aquat-net, an education and mobility platform for students in the marine sector.
