The Centre is also involved in high-level Marie Curie student exchange projects. In addition, the educational aims of HCMR look towards the development and provision of innovative online courses aimed at several different sectors including the school sector. HCMR is also engaged in creating public awareness educational programmes, ranging from established courses hosted by the Hydrobiological Museum of Rhodes, to its Open Door project. HCMR has run a summer school, TETHYS, for 20 students, in 2004 and 2005. The Marie Curie project ECOSUMMER: Ecosystem approach to sustainable management of the Marine Environment and its living resources. Research training is provided in one or more research areas, with a programme which provides a structure within which trainees can advance their research and obtain help, advice and mutual support. Online Courses HCMR, in the ORION project, created a Virtual Marine Science Department which linked 4 European universities, all centres of excellence in different fields of marine science. This innovative network allows courses to be run in one corner of Europe to be accessed by students on the other side of Europe. The ORION network also prepares students preparing for exchanges to familiarise themselves with course content in a language that they understand, before reaching the host university, with its unfamiliar language and new course modules. The dedicated website has several important features designed to maximise support to students: very basic language learning modules based on the marine sciences; a comprehensive glossary giving 1200 instantly accessible terms and definitions in English, Greek, Portuguese and Swedish; there is also a reference file in English, Greek and Norwegian for fish, shellfish and crustacean meristics. Outreach The HCMR Outreach programmes are run mainly from the Hydrobiological Museum of Rhodes, which provides the technology, specialized personnel, necessary equipment and support, and endeavours to maximise public awareness of environmental problems. Summer School The Institute of Oceanography has successfully run a summer school TETHYS for the last two years. The Institute of Aquaculture (Dr. P. Divanach) is running a short course in Mediterranean Aquaculture from June 4 -22 2007. Within this framework HRS organizes seminars and lectures of relevant topics addressing the industrial sector and members of central management and the “OTA” and generally to groups of people of which the decisions and activities have a direct or indirect effect on the environment. | |+ Larger Font | - Smaller Font
